"The Pocket Rocket" Wayne McCullough

“The Pocket Rocket” Wayne McCullough was born in Belfast, Northern Irland on 7-7-70. Talk about “Luck of the Irish”. He represented Irland in the Olympics in both 1988 and 1992, winning the silver medal in ’92. He was the first Irish fighter to ever win a WBC world title and took on some great competition like Daniel Zaragoza, Prince Naseem Hamed, Erik Morales, and Oscar “Chololo” Larios along the way. Wayne was trained by the legendary boxing trainer Eddie Futch, and stayed close to him until his passing in 2001. Today, Wayne also trains fighters in the Las Vegas area. He will always be remembered for his forward style, solid chin, and never getting knocked down in a fight. It was fun chatting with him and hearing his great stories and memories in boxing.
