Rolando “El Pochito” Reyes was one of the most exciting boxers out of the city of Oxnard. As a young kid, he would hang out and cause trouble around the La Colonia Gym which was literally across the street from where he lived in the Eastside of town. He would later notice that several of the kids that would train there would be taken out of town on weekend trips. Not knowing they were going to compete in boxing tournaments, he started training there to find out. He would soon become part of all that.

After a successful amateur career of over a hundred fights, Rolando decided to turn pro at the end of 1999. After four back-to-back bouts of two losses and two draws early in his career, he would go on to finish in 2009 with a total of 37 pro fights only losing twice more to Miguel Angel Huerta and Jose Luis Castillo. In two of his last three fights, he defeated Stevie Johnston and Julio “The Kidd” Diaz via knockout. After these victories, Reyes waited for big fights that never happened. He even tried going to Texas to challenge the very popular Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, which was rejected. With no luck in getting fights, Reyes started working locally and continues living in Ventura County. Rolando was trained mostly by local boxing trainer, Ruben Juarez.
